Challenge — Promoting Montreal Jazz Festival

The goal was to create a promotional video for Montreal’s Jazz Festival using motion graphics. To complete the brief, this project called for After Effects, Photography, and sound editing skills.

Insight — Culturally Diverse

After researching the jazz festival, it was apparent that they wanted to be seen as a cultural, diverse music festival that embraced every genre of jazz and musicians from every origin. They needed a promo that reflected their exciting outdoor summer shows but that represented their spirit of inclusivity.

Outcome — Odd. Free. Colorful.

The ultimate video was composed of hands playing different instruments, hands of every color, of every origin. The visuals were also paired with sounds from common jazz instruments that didn’t adhere to any particular genres: these combinations of odd sounds and colorful imagery reflects the free, improvised soul of jazz music at its root.
